Camp Notes

Jr. High Camp

Hey Look! It's all the notes from Jr. High Camp!!!

I made this space for all of the people who were at Jr. High Camp. Aside from the Quest video series, we explored a number of different topics and sometimes it's hard to remember everything we learned at camp. So, feel free to look over the notes from our week at camp and refresh yourself as time goes by.

Oh yeah, if you want to check out the 'filled with the spirit' video that we adopted, just email me: tbcyouth@mts.net

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE MEET JESUS

WHEN PEOPLE MEET JESUS
– The Paralytic Man

What’s keeping you from Jesus?

The Crowd
Your Condition
The Critics

One day as Jesus was teaching…Some men arrived carrying a paraplegic on a stretcher. They were looking for a way to get into the house and set him before Jesus. When they couldn’t find a way in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof, removed some tiles, and let him down in the middle of everyone, right in front of Jesus. Impressed by their bold belief, he said, “Friend, I forgive your sins.”

That set the religion scholars and Pharisees buzzing. “Who does he think he is? That’s blasphemous talk! God and only God can forgive sins.”

Jesus knew exactly what they were thinking and said, “Why all this gossipy whispering? Which is simpler: to say ‘I forgive your sins,’ or to say ‘Get up and start walking’? Well, just so it’s clear that I’m the Son of Man and authorized to do either, or both…” He now spoke directly to the paraplegic: “Get up. Take your bedroll and go home.” Without a moment’s hesitation, he did it—got up, took his blanket, and left for home, giving glory to God all the way. The people rubbed their eyes, incredulous—and then also gave glory to God. Awestruck, they said, “We’ve never seen anything like that!
” (Luke 5:17-26).

Making it personal…

1. Identify your ROADBLOCKS
They were looking for a way to get into the house and set him before Jesus. When they couldn’t find a way in because of the crowd…

2. Get rid of your EXCUSES
…they went up on the roof, removed some tiles…

3. Don’t hide your PAIN
…let him down in the middle of everyone, right in front of Jesus.

4. Express faith and experience the miracle of FORGIVENESS
Impressed by their bold belief, he said, “Friend, I forgive your sins.”

5. Live in a way that represents a CHANGED LIFE
Without a moment’s hesitation, he did it—got up, took his blanket, and left for home, giving glory to God all the way.

Image is Everything

Group Question:
define REALITY.
Reality: the actual state of things, the state of being real.

WHAT”S REAL?
Definition- Real: authentic, genuine, not artificial or counterfeit, actually existing.

We live in a world that has mastered fake products, fake fame, and fake friendships. It’s easy to act and dress like somebody famous, but then you are missing out on who you really are.

You might have a close circle of friends who know the real you, but maybe you always feel like you have to act a certain way so people will accept you. Feels like you’re always wearing a mask.

Is there anybody that knows the real you?
There is and it’s God. God knows you. He knows every thing about you. He knows your thoughts, desires, strengths, weaknesses, successes, and failures. He knows it all. Why, how? Because He created you.

When it comes to our self image we:

Face the fear of rejection – need to mask who we really are so people don’t find out the real us.

Seek the comfort of acceptance – need to feel loved.

Strive for coolness –confident in who we are.

We find it in two places:

Our environment (family, friends, culture) –magazines & Media
How do we base our identity on our environment?
1) We are told that our identity comes from what we have done ourselves (our accomplishments (sports, hobbies, or from our failures).

2) We are told that our identity comes from what people say about you (popularity in school, unpopularity, rumors, accolades…)

3) Your behavior tells you what to believe about yourself (i.e. “If I act cool than maybe I will be cool”. Or if you aren’t cooperative with people in authority you start believing that you don’t need to listen to anyone if it cramps your style. OR Snowboarding image.

Can you really base your image on your accomplishments, on your behavior?
All of the stuff in the magazines or that the world has to offer will never make us real. Once we obtain what is being sold we will find that there will always be something bigger and better. The computers and cars will only get faster. The fashions will eventually go out of style. What now?

When we begin to base our worth on our looks, status, or possessions, where do we go? If we look to our environment for a good self image, we will never measure up since their message is constantly changing.

We can find it in:

Our Maker (God)
Bible verses that help us see how God views our identity.

Read: Psalm 139
Real life comes from the giver of life Himself.

Psalm 139:4; Genesis 1:26; Isaiah 43:1; Ephesians 1:34; Jeremiah 29:11; John 1:12; John 1:12; Ephesians 2:810; John 15:15; Philippians 4:19; Romans 12:1; Ephesians 2:19

How do we base our identity on our Maker?
1) Our identity comes from what God has done for us (giving credit where credit is due [story of stealing credit])

2) Our identity comes from what God says about us (Eph. 2:10)

3) What we believe determines our behavior (if we believe in God, then we reflect that in how we live out our life)

One last thought: Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder: No one cares about you more than God does. He made you and he loves you. Base your self image on what he has to say about you, not other people.

Isn't it incredible that God has said all of these wonderful things about each one of us? How does it make you feel to know that God knows you so personally?

However, God only says these things to His children. The fact is that not all of the billions of people on this planet are God's children.

Yes, we are all created in His image, but our sinful nature has separated us from our Heavenly Father.

Yes, it is true, we cannot escape the reality of sin in our lives (Romans 3:23).

But the good news is we can be restored to God's family by putting our faith in His Son Jesus Christ to save us from our sin.

This is how much God really loved us (Romans 6:23; 1 Corinthians 6:1920).

It’s your choice, what are you going to base you worth on?

HOW TO GET A LIFE

HOW TO GET A LIFE

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10

THE THIEF is the DEVIL who is an ENEMY of God
Control yourselves and be careful! The devil, your enemy, goes around like a roaring lion looking for someone to eat. 1 Peter 5:8

· STEAL my JOY
· KILL my WITNESS
· DESTROY my LIFE

CHRISTIANS CAN BE CONFIDENT THEY ARE…
SAVED
If you use your mouth to say, “Jesus is Lord,” and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
ALIENS
Dear brothers, you are only visitors here. Since your real home is in heaven, I beg you to keep away from the evil pleasures of this world; they are not for you, for they fight against your very souls. 1 Peter 2:11
FRAGRANT
As far as God is concerned there is a sweet, wholesome fragrance in our lives. It is the fragrance of Christ within us, an aroma to both the saved and the unsaved all around us. 2 Corinthians 2:15
TEMPTED
For since he himself has now been through suffering and temptation, he knows what it is like when we suffer and are tempted, and he is wonderfully able to help us. Hebrews 2:18
STRENGHTENED
His weak, human body died on the cross, but now he lives by the mighty power of God. We, too, are weak in our bodies, as he was, but now we live and are strong, as he is, and have all of God’s power to use in dealing with you. 2 Corinthians 13:4

TAKING ACTION ON THE THIEF

A WEEK IN REVIEW

We started the week off investigating spiritual things and taking a look at what happens when people meet Jesus.

We discovered that if God exists, then we should take into consideration God's perspective about us. What we think of ourselves should be based on what God says about us rather than what the world says about us.

Then we talked about being confident in our faith, and if we're trying to be effective Christians, Satan wants to do everthing he can to stop us.

That left us with the question of whether or not it's really worth following Jesus. Some of you made that choice, and you think it is worth it.
When you leave camp (if you're reading this, you have already left!), there are going to be a lot of challenges to stay close to the people you've met at camp, and it's going to be even harder to stay close to God.

The question then is, what do you do about that?

1) Remember the armor of God -especially the shield of faith, the sword of the spirit, and to live a life of prayer. Also, practice 2 Peter 1:5-9.

"5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins." -2 Peter 1:5-9

2) Get involved in a youth group and/or church -There are youth groups and churches in Minitonas, Swan River, Ochre River, and Durban. Wherever you live, try and find a youth group that you can be involved in.

3) In School -remember the people you met at camp and try and stay in touch with them throughout the school year. If you don't go to the same school, you can always email. Try and find a way to stay in contact with people you went to camp with.

I hope you had an awesome week at camp! Remember, it's just the beginning to living the full life.
